Our sawmill division (Chisholm's (Roslin) Ltd.) purchases logs on the open market. We are also a member of the Bancroft Minden SFL and consequently have a crown timber allocation. Much of our private timber properties are FSC certified. FSC certification is supported by the World Wildlife Fund and is the highest endorsement for products derived from environmentally and socially responsible forests.

We take our motto seriously here at Chisholm Lumber. To make sure that we do it right, we try our best to ensure our quality lumber comes from trees that have been sustainably harvested. Chisholm's had been a long-term supporter of good forestry practices. Since the early 1990's, all of Chisholm's properties have been enrolled in a forest management program. As well, all of our woodlots are part of the Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program. Chisholm's was also one of the first companies in Ontario to become involved with the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) - an international third party certifications system that ensures forest resources are managed in a sustainable, ecological, and socially responsible manner. FSC is the only forest certification system in North America endorsed by the World Wildlife Fund, Green Peace and the Sierra Club of Canada. Since 2002, Chisholm Lumber properties have been FSC certified and our production process is capable of producing FSC certified lumber.

As a primary user of wood, Chisholm Lumber has recognized the importance of being good forest stewards. To help private woodlot owners, Chisholm's offers a comprehensive forest management service. We provide provincially certified tree markers, forest management prescriptions written by members of the Professional Foresters Association, markets for all forest products, forest operations supervision, and FSC certification for private woodlots. Most importantly, we provide peace of mind for landowners who know that the job will be done right.
Chisholm Lumber has also made a clear commitment to purchasing wood from well-managed woodlots. We have forged partnerships with forestry consultants and other primary forest users to help provide a source of well-managed logs. We also work with area loggers by providing forest management services to help them do a better job in the forest.
